I take great pleasure in introducing our newest Assistant Coach to the CFNZ community!! Larissa has been with us right from the beginning, back on Pilkington Road, and by her own admission, not that much of a CrossFit convert to begin with. But as is so often the case, the seed was planted, and slowly germinated, and Larissa has become not only one of our top female athletes (a member of the 2011 Regionals team), but a valued member of the coaching team and also the community itself. It’s great to have you on board Larissa!
How long have you been a member at CFNZ?
Unofficially December 2008, officially February 2009
How did you end up walking through our doors for the first time?
Was pretty much dragged kicking and screaming by my older sister and a family friend, they would not shut up about CFNZ.
Inov8’s, Converse, or Reebok training shoes?
Ino8’s, plus my awesome Adidas lifting shoes
Can you remember your first workout? What was it like?
Helen – my first official workout, it just happened to be baseline day and the atmosphere was amazing!
Jumping pull ups, and I think I swung maybe an 8kg KB?
What tunes do you like working out to?
I like me some hip hop but to be honest as long as there is something to drown out the sound of my own
breathing, I am happy.
What has been one of the biggest things in your life that has changed since starting CrossFit?
This is corny and not really what most people would say but my relationship with my sister
(who originally dragged me to CFNZ kicking and screaming), it has given us a kind of common ground
and improved our relationship… (it also helps that she now lives in another country….)
Because everyone has a day job….well most of us anyway. What do you get up to when you’re not becoming stronger, faster, smarter at CFNZ?
I am a physiotherapist, working at Middlemore Hospital at present, so that keeps me out of trouble from 7am til 4pm
most days, and the occasional weekend day. I also enjoy the musculoskeletal aspect of physiotherapy and
managing injuries/return to play for winning league teams (2010 Fox Memorial Champs the Mighty Otahuhu
Leopards!!).
I am also quite passionate about Women’s Health aspect, especially with Crossfitters in mind, no one
should have bladder leakage with box jumps or double unders-ladies or gents (but that is a whole blog post on its own-watch this space)
Do you have a workout Bro or Brodette? If so please give a shout out.
Brodettes? My Sunday morning ladies, those of you who are around on a Sunday morning know who you are!
